"My life has been dedicated to music. I began singing at the age of 3, then was singing in church and performing in musical theater through high school, majored in voice in college, receiving choral honors as a soloist. At 22 years old I went on to apprentice at the Minnesota Opera Company and from there performed all over the United States as a soloist and in choral settings for the next twenty+ years.
I have been teaching for over 30 years, having served on the voice faculty at UC Riverside and Mt. St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles. I was a keynote speaker for the International Governors Conference of Toastmasters and a guest presenter at the First International Conference on Music in Human Adaptation.
Now my commitment is to serving and teaching students in my private home studio in Los Angeles (and over Zoom for students located elsewhere). I love my students - it's joyful to assist them in finding their true voice. They range from 9-year-old beginners to college students majoring in voice, to professional opera and musical theater performers as well as speakers. I challenge my students and we have fun together! There's no requirement to be able to read music to work with me - the only requirement is that you are willing to experiment and stretch yourself and your voice. We don't rush, there's no "pressure" - people learn to use their voices more effectively in an environment of support and encouragement.
I received a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease in 2013. Rather than seeing it as a tragedy, it's allowed me to embrace teaching as my performance modality. Those who study with me understand this is something I work with . . .however, my students will tell you, I rarely miss lessons.
My partner Paul, my birds, and my life serving students is a joy - if you'd like to see if working together is a match, we'll have a conversation. I'm not for everyone . . .if you want to be taken to new places in your voice, focusing on power first and pretty second, then there's a strong possibility I can help you."
